SINGAPORE: Sabah is still one of Singapore’s quick getaway spots, with the private sector continuing to sell Sabah packages at the island state, according to Sabah Tourism Board director Alexander Yee.
Yee, who led the Sabah delegation during a three-day Travel Malaysia Fair in Singapore last month, reported that agents and hoteliers made an estimated combined sales of RM385,700 worth of packages, which included follow-up on inquiries received prior to the trade show.
“There are a total of 14 direct flights by Silk Air and AirAsia connecting Singapore to Kota Kinabalu weekly, or about 2,300 seats. Singaporeans are attracted to our islands and beaches, Mount Kinabalu as well as the diving spots around Sabah,” said Yee.
“This is a very encouraging sign as Singaporeans look out for closer destinations for a short getaway from their ‘hectic’ work schedule and Sabah is the perfect destination as it is less than two-and-a-half hours away from Singapore,” said Jason Paujik, marketing manager (Singapore) of Sabah Tourism Board.
Eight members of the private sector from Sabah who participated in the Travel Fair were Amazing Borneo, Avangio Hotel, Borneo Trails, Promenade Hotel, Sutera Harbour Resort, Nasalis Lavartus Tours and S.I Tours & Sepilok Tropical Wildlife Adventure of Sandakan.
Travel Malaysia fair is a ‘Malaysia only’ product consumer fair that enables agents under the Sabah Tourism to sell direct to consumers in Singapore.
After the Travel Fair, Sabah Tourism Board, Tourism Malaysia and Singapore-based airline SilkAir organised a Mini Sabah Travel Mart at the Furama Riverfront Hotel in Singapore for business networking of Singapore agents.
