Record participation for Sabah Hospitality Fiesta
KOTA KINABALU: A record number of 252 hotels, resorts, colleges and educational institutions are taking part in the 17th Sabah Hospitality Fiesta 2014 which will be launched at the Suria Sabah Shopping Mall here on Nov 1.“They include three each from Sarawak and Negeri Sembilan and one from Melaka,” said Stanley Lajiun, the organising chairman of the fiesta themed ‘Colourful Scenes of Malaysia’, which is aimed at bringing about the best hospitality presentation through sight, sound and taste.
Among the participants are Bunga Raya Island Resort & Spa; Cititel Express Kota Kinabalu; Dorsett Grand Labuan Hotel; Four Points by Sheraton Sandakan; Gayana Eco Resort; Grand Borneo Hotel; Hatton Hotel Melaka; Horizon Hotel; Hotel Sixty3; Hyatt Regency Kota Kinabalu; Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu; Meritz Hotel (Sarawak); Ming Garden Hotel & Residences; Nexus Resort & Spa Karambunai; Promenade Hotel Kota Kinabalu; Sabah Oriental Hotel; Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort; Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa; Tiara Labuan Hotel; The Klagan Hotel; The Magellan Sutera, and The Pacific Sutera from the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Sabah/Labuan chapter, MAH Sarawak chapter and MAH Melaka chapter.
Non-MAH members participating are college lecturers/trainers from the professional categories from Kinabalu Park; Kolej Yayasan Sabah; Laban Rata; Manukan Island Resort; Mesilau Nature Resort; Politeknik Kota Kinabalu; Poring Hot Spring and PTPL College.
Also taking part are education institutions in and around Kota Kinabalu and Negeri Sembilan, namely, Asian Tourism International College; Ascot Academy; Cosmopoint Kota Kinabalu; Institut Pelancongan dan Perhotelan Negeri Sembilan; INTI Sabah College; Kiara College; Kolej Yayasan Sabah; Sabah Skills Technology Centre; PTPL College; Politeknik Kota Kinabalu and Tunku Abdul Rahman University College Sabah.
Among the competitions under the professional and apprentice categories are decorated wedding cake, pastry showpiece, seafood platter, meat platter, individual fruit and vegetable carving, bartender fair, cocktail, Nescafe Tarik competition, table setting and professional bed making challenge.
The highlight during the opening ceremony will be the launching of the ‘Hawker Street Fiesta’ Charity Do by Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Pang Yuk Ming.
This year’s charity drive will see 10 participating hotels and education institutions coming out with their own choice of products to sell at their designated stalls from 1pm to 6pm, with a targeted proceeds of RM10,000 to be channelled to the Sabah Cheshire Home, as the beneficiary of this year’s fiesta.
